Changing Paradigm
Evolution of Offerings and the Shift in Pricing Models

What is changing in the product landscape
- From selling inputs to selling outcomes. Software and services used to be priced on effort (licences, hours, headcount). AI products increasingly deliver the finished work, so price moves toward the result (a resolved ticket, a qualified lead).
- Seats stop tracking value. When agents do the work, the number of human users says little about what the customer gets. Pricing units shift to credits, runtime, tasks and outcomes.
- Cost now scales with use. Every AI call costs real compute, unlike traditional software where extra use was nearly free. Pricing has to protect margin as well as capture value.
- Hybrid models are the reality. Few companies are fully usage- or outcome-based. Most combine a base subscription, a pooled credit allowance and pay-as-you-go overage.
- Pricing becomes continuous. Models, costs and customer behaviour change quickly, so pricing is revised often, not once a year. Billing has to make those changes cheap and safe.
